Tanya Franklin

Hello, I am Tanya!  I have just joined White Gold and I am truly excited to start engaging with young people and colleagues and be part of the team which helps signpost them to reach their potential and have a brighter future.  I believe that building a rapport with the person you are supporting is paramount.  Eliciting their likes and dislikes, finding what sparks their interest and earning their trust so that you can understand and support their needs is so rewarding.

I am a keen tennis player, social extrovert, love walking the coastal path, cycling, singing in a band and craft work.  I have lived in Cornwall for 30+ years and have worked in a variety of educational roles spanning the ages of 5 years to 55 years! Firstly, I was a primary school teacher for nearly 20 years and then joined the world of non-medical support to vulnerable and disabled students at Plymouth University and Plymouth College of Art. Most recently, I have been supporting and teaching post 16 students with learning and mental health difficulties in an outdoor college environment.

I am also a mum to two grown up lads and have therefore experienced what a parent might need from outside sources to support them through preparing their own children for an independent adulthood.

In all my roles, I have been privileged to touch the lives of the pupils, students and adults that I have supported … there is no better feeling than bumping into someone that you taught or supported many years previously, sharing memories and hearing their new stories.
