Inspiring Effort: Julie Nicholls Conquers the London Marathon for White Gold Cornwall!
We are absolutely thrilled and incredibly proud to share that the wonderful Julie Nicholls recently took on the iconic London Marathon, raising vital funds to support our work here at White Gold Cornwall.
Running a marathon is a monumental challenge under the best of conditions, but Julie’s journey to the finish line was a true testament to her resilience, determination, and community spirit. Despite facing a string of unexpected hurdles on race weekend, she pushed through to the very end, proving that true marathon spirit is all about overcoming the odds.
Why White Gold Cornwall?
Julie chose to run for White Gold Cornwall because of a deep-rooted connection to the county and a shared belief in our mission to reduce isolation, support local communities, and guide vulnerable individuals toward a brighter future.
Here is what Julie had to say about her inspiring experience:
“Running the London Marathon for White Gold Cornwall felt like a meaningful way to give back to a county and community that has shaped so much of who I am. Growing up in Cornwall with a background in dance and performing arts, I saw first-hand both the opportunities and challenges that come with creative pathways, particularly around mental wellbeing, connection and support, which is why White Gold Cornwall’s work helping reduce isolation, support communities and create opportunities across Cornwall really resonated with me.
Race day itself definitely did not go to plan! After arriving in London to find our accommodation had been cancelled, public transport issues on the day meant I got to the start line just as they were closing my wave, with no time for a warm up or even a toilet trip before I started. A few miles in I also realised I’d somehow lost my electrolytes earlier on the course which led to awful cramps, so I was really just survival mode until The Mall was finally in sight. It wasn’t the race I had trained for, but 26.2 miles is still 26.2 miles and crossing the finish line of the London Marathon was still an incredibly proud moment.”
A Massive Thank You!
From accommodation disasters to transport chaos and mid-race cramps, Julie showed the kind of grit and heart that inspires us all.
Every pound Julie raised goes directly toward our 1-to-1 mentoring and support services, helping us reach those who need it most across Cornwall. We want to extend a massive thank you to Julie for her incredible endurance, and to everyone who donated and cheered her on.
Congratulations, Julie—you are an absolute superstar! 🌟
