Breaking the cycle of feeling ‘let down’ by services takes time, patience, and a lot of heart. This recent testimony perfectly captures the moment a young person stops believing they are a ‘problem’ and starts realising their own potential. Read how Amanda’s consistent support has radiated throughout this entire family’s life:
“Amanda has only been supporting our son for a few months now but the positive change created from their time together has radiated throughout his and our lives. Used to being let down by services and believing he had ‘a curse’ that stopped people wanting to keep spending time with him, there was a serious amount of trust that needed to be built. Amanda took this on board and spent the first weeks supporting him in his favourite places. Places that he chose and in which he felt confident and comfortable, allowing him to feel more relaxed in Amanda’s presence. At our request Amanda took photos of their outings to send to us to build a journal. The adventures they have had together have been revisited in the hours in-between visits by looking at the photos and reminiscing. We have noticed less negativity towards himself since having Amanda’s support and a huge boost in confidence and his own abilities. He feels listened to, able and is very much enjoying the independence Amanda is aiding him to develop. He has been more accepting of social situations, more willing to step out of his comfort zone knowing that he has support and has hugely benefitted from his engagement with white gold. Anytime we have voiced parental worries with Amanda, such as medical diagnosis or situations we have been finding difficult, she has been very knowledgeable and accepting wholly professional and very comforting. Our wishes as parents have always been respected and as a family we are so very grateful!”
