Maria Arnold-Jones

Engagement Worker

Dydh da, ow hanow yw Maria!

I live with my rescue animals, Clyde the dog and Poppy the cat, and for a short while my grown-up son whilst I find him a shared ownership property to move into.

All of my working life I have worked with people from all backgrounds, ages and abilities through the fields of Nursing and Housing. Having gained experience working with older young people aged 16 to 30 in The Foyer -supported accommodation projects, I am looking forward to working with some young people from other age groups, in a community setting.

I have a good understanding of neurodiversity, having ADHD myself and I also supported my children through the education and health systems, due to them having ASD/ADHD and anxiety. I understand the pressures that young people face in this modern world, and how some statutory services are more difficult to access for some young people who have extra needs or for those who are just finding the pressures of life difficult. I pride myself on being an advocate for people who struggle to have their voice heard and hope to carry this ethos through in my work with White Gold.

On a personal note, I love nothing more than being in nature, whether rain (often!) or sunshine and can always be found in wellies when not in work. I’m hoping that this job also gives me the opportunity to wear my wellies from time to time 😊 When I’m not walking my dog up a claypit, Tor or across a beach I enjoy a bit of Yoga and Pilates and am a big fan of the geopool at Jubilee Pool in Penzance.  Having previously owned a small cake business I can also whip up a tasty tray bake too, and my brownies are legendary!!

I look forward to being involved with the great work that White Gold Cornwall does and contributing to improving young people’s well-being in the community.

Dhe waryow!
